Amazing.
I'm listening to this beautiful atmospheric sound composition after 6 years from its creation and it still sounds much fresher than many current electronic/ambient works. It's a bit more cerebral and less playful than AEM's previous work "Use", though again very rich in airy details masterfully interwoven over vibrating drama textures. This is a rare occasion where an album's title keeps the promise of its contents. It's a message which easily goes beyond our normal perception channels. My preferred track, "Green and Olive" (#4), flows as a rising tide with a few deep percussions slowly laying over a theory of reverberating brass and strings -- and I can't keep myself from increasing the volume in order to drown in this warm ocean!
So highly evocative that I have to stop here, 'cause I'd end up writing hundreds of lines in an endless stream of consciousness...
one life
AEM's 'Patience' is a journey through fluid ambient soundscapes filled with drips, glitches, and textures. Disjointed little noises build up, shaped by slow and graceful bass sweeps and warm chords, to form subtle yet sublime melodies. The amount of sonic detail is incredible: every listen to the album reveals reveals previously unnoticed little arrangements and layers. In places the sound of 'Patience' crosses the fine line between extreme crafted complexity and complete entropy, but that makes finding the subtle rhythm again all the more enjoyable. Transitions between tracks are seamless, and listening from start to finish in the intended order is definitely the best way to experience 'Patience'.

Beautifully composed, recorded, and mastered, this album is equally great for contemplative headphone listens and for filling the room with sound from a home theater system. Even if you don't care for electronic music in general, give 'Patience' a try. It is a unique experience.
